NOV. 27TH, 2007 UPDATE:
NIP/TUCK ME! PLEASE HELP!
THAT'S HER ON THE RIGHT; SHE'S GOTTEN TO BE FRIENDS WITH SAHARA. THEY MUST KNOW HOW PRETTY THEY LOOK STANDING SIDE BY SIDE! :) THE VET SAID HER PROUD FLESH IS MAINLY A COSMETIC ISSUE; AND THAT THE STEPS WE'RE USING SEEM TO BE SHRINKING IT. THE SCARS ON HER ABDOMEN AND LIPS ARE INDEED SCARS, AND NOT TUMORS AS PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT. THE VET SAID "SOMEBODY SURE DID A NUMBER ON THAT MARE". WELL; SHE'S SAFE NOW.
WE DID ROACH HER MANE WHILE SHE WAS SEDATED FOR WORK ON THE PROUD FLESH. AS YOU CAN SEE, THE INJURED HOCK IS ONLY ABOUT HALF AS BIG AS IT WAS. SHE'S BONDED WITH SAMANTHA, MY 15 YR OLD DAUGHTER WHO CARES FOR THE HORSES EVERY NIGHT AFTER SCHOOL; BUT REMAINS STAND-OFFISH TO THE REST OF US. WE ALSO FOUND OUT THAT SARA IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD! IT ALSO APPEARS THAT SHE IS PREGNANT.
This mare sold to us for $10 at the O'Neill NE auction on Oct. 13th. She's the most frightened of humans of any horse at Phoenix Rising.....probably for good reason. She has the proud flesh on her inner left hind hock; and scars (?) from something on her abdomen, just where the hind left leg meets the body.
Her lovely mane is FULL of brambles; We hope to be able to tame her down enough to get it combed out. However we may have to just cut it off and let her start over.
